Who We Are

The Community of Immanuel is a worldwide community of people who share the common goal of reaching a higher consciousness and finding greater enlightenment. We come from all walks of life and are not defined by age, race, gender, creed, or sexual orientation.

The Community of Immanuel was incorporated as a non-profit organization in the state of California, in 2013. We were certified as a tax-deductible charity, under Section 501(C)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, by the IRS in 2016. So, all contributions to Community of Immanuel, Immanuel Farms, Anbessa Foundation, or the House of Immanuel are tax-deductible.

Immanuel (Hebrew, meaning God is with us). We strive to be and express the God within us in all that we do. We have no limiting or exclusionary doctrine to separate us from the rest of mankind. The core of our belief system is very simple.

We Believe In Love

Love is the essential element of our message and the foundation upon which our belief system is based. It begins with love of self. Then, it incorporates love of others. Finally, it extends to encompass love of life and every living thing.

In order to love our neighbors as ourselves, we must first love ourselves. If we do not love ourselves, we are not capable of loving anyone else. If we do not love ourselves, we cannot feel worthy of the love of others and are therefore incapable of receiving love from others.

Love of self means knowledge and awareness of self, respect of self, and appreciation of self. This understanding of and love of self is manifested through our pursuit and maintenance of mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual fitness.

Mental fitness is achieved through reading, observation, study, and discourse.

Physical fitness comes through exercising the body, in work and in play. We endorse the practice of walking, running, swimming, boxing, wrestling, judo, Jiu Jitsu, capoeira, karate, Kung fu, Krav Magaa, and all sports to achieve and maintain that physical fitness.

Emotional fitness is a product of us loving ourselves, those close to us, strangers we meet, and life itself, whether that life is found in plants, animals, fish, birds, insects, or anything else that lives.

Spiritual fitness can only come through the consciousness raising inward journey of reflection. We must reflect on who we are, where we are, and why we are here. Then, we must reflect what we have discovered to all who would see. Some of us choose to reflect this through the visual and performing arts. Some of us do this through motivational speaking, guidance, and counseling. Others, do it through their practice of trades and the professions. Whatever we do, we do it better if we love what we do and we do what we love.

We Believe In God

We believe that, by whatever name you choose to call God, there is only one God. God is neither male nor female and is not an individual personality with a physical address. Mankind has no proprietary claim to being made in the image of God because everything that lives is a reflection of God.

God is life. The difference between a living tree and an object made out of wood is that the tree still has life in it. The life has left the inanimate object made out of wood. Life is life, no matter where it is found, whether in a tree, a flower, a bird, a fish, a horse, a dog, a cat, or a human being. Because God is life and everything that lives has God in it, everything that lives is a part of God.

Life is energy. Energy is what allows living things to move and to grow. That movement and growth is the manifestation of God in our bodies.

Energy is spirit. Our spirit is the living part of us, that which resides within the husk of our bodies.
Our spirit is what lives on when our bodies are withered and decayed. It is our will to live while we live.

Spirit is essence. The essence of a thing, any thing, is the nature of that thing. It is the core of that thing, whether that thing is a plant, an animal, or a human being.
Essence is God. The essence of all living things is God because God is the life within us. Our nature is to be God, no matter how hard we might try to resist it, or run away from it.

We Believe In Christ Consiousness

Christ Consciousness is that enlightened state of being in which we are at one with the God within us.

We believe in the Universal Truths which have been held by all of the world’s great wisdom traditions and which were taught by Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus realized Christ Consciousness and challenged all who would listen, during his lifetime and forever afterward, not to worship him but to live like him and be like him. We strive to follow the path he illuminated for us and do the same.

We Believe It Is Our Responsibility
To Care For The Earth

The Earth, or Mother Earth, must nurture and sustain us all. That is why we must practice sustainable living, not polluting the Earth, and leaving as light a footprint as possible on her. This includes natural and organic food production and waste disposal.

We Believe It Is Also Our Responsibility To Care
For Those Of Us Who Are Less Fortunate

Those of us who can must help out the very old, the very young, the infirm, the hopeless, and the disenfranchised. Are we our brothers and sisters keepers? Yes! A wise man once said: “You cannot blame a person for what they don’t know. But, once we know, we are responsible for acting like we know.”

There is no faith without acts consistent with that faith. We manifest our faith and belief through Anbessa Foundation.

We Believe In The Spiritual And Medicinal
Healing Properties Of The Tree Of Life

“We believe in the spiritual and medicinal healing properties of the Tree of Life, but we do not require that all members must partake of the flower of the tree.

If one is suffering from any mental, physical, emotional, or spiritual deficiency, we recommend that they either eat it, drink it, smoke it, or rub an ointment containing its essence onto the affected area.”

Tree Of Life

he Tree of Life has been referenced by every major religion since the dawn of time.

In the Christian Bible:

Genesis 1:29 Then God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you.”

Timothy 4:1-4 states very clearly:

4:1 But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,
4:2 by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron,
4:3 men who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods, which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth.
4:4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it is

“In generosity and helping others
BE LIKE A RIVER
In compassion and grace
BE LIKE SUN
In concealing others’ faults
BE LIKE NIGHT
In anger and fury
BE LIKE DEAD
In modesty and humility
BE LIKE EARTH
In tolerance
BE LIKE A SEA
EITHER EXIST AS YOU ARE OR BE AS YOU LOOK.”
